Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, today released the following statement in response to the confirmation of Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins to the position of U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts:

“From moving to dismiss thousands of cases tainted by Massachusetts’ drug lab scandals to declining to prosecute several low-level offenses, Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins has prioritized racial justice and fairness in our legal system. The ACLU looks forward to working with her as U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts.

In 2018, as the ACLU launched our ‘What a Difference a DA Makes’ campaign, Suffolk County voters spoke loud and clear: The power of district attorneys should be used to further racial justice and create healthier communities. Governor Baker must appoint a successor who will continue the work to transform our legal system from one rooted in punishment and retribution to one that centers human dignity and public health.”
