The USCIS union, former federal officials, and other legal service groups have filed friend-of-the-court briefs supporting the ACLU’s challenge to a Trump administration policy that forces asylum-seekers to return to Mexico and remain there while their asylum applications are processed.
We will continue this fight to end the suffering for these families, and to end the forced "Return to Mexico" policy altogether.
Unfortunately, this bill does not reflect the fierce urgency that deadly police violence against Black people demands. Instead, it reflects the depth of entrenched opposition to necessary police reform.
At this watershed moment in history, the Massachusetts legislature has the opportunity and duty to truly reform policing.
This bill takes significant steps to protect people and to strengthen police accountability in the Commonwealth. While the ACLU and many of our allies still wish to see qualified immunity eliminated, we commend the Senate for taking this critical action and urge the House to do the same.
