The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy today issued guidance to all pharmacies in the Commonwealth, clarifying that they are required to stock and dispense all reproductive health medications, including mifepristone. The new guidance comes after Walgreens said it would not dispense the abortion medication in 21 states, even though mifepristone is safe, effective, and FDA-approved.
Carol Rose, Executive Director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, today released the following in response to the new Massachusetts guidance:
“We thank Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, Secretary Walsh, and Commissioner Cooke for affirming Massachusetts’ deep commitment to and nationwide leadership on reproductive health care. The Healey-Driscoll administration knows what’s at stake: Extremists are pressing for a nationwide ban on all abortion care and contraception. Massachusetts must fight back with our full power. The ACLU is proud to work with the Healey-Driscoll administration to ensure all people who need reproductive health care have access to it. Let’s be clear: Everyone should be able to get the care they need—no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they have.”
