We've gone from 0 states in 1970, the year the ACLU filed the first marriage equality lawsuit in the country, to 50 today, thanks to our win at the Supreme Court!
The ACLU brought two of the marriage cases—Obergefell and Beshear—decided by the Court on June 26, 2015. This historic Supreme Court ruling means same-sex couples will soon have the freedom to marry and equal respect for their marriages across America.
If you missed the celebration that followed, you can still watch video of a short speech by our deputy legal director Sarah Wunsch.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this win for equality a reality!
