The American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts today announced the hiring of Stephanie Simon as communications director to shape and direct the organization’s strategic communications across a range of platforms.

Simon joins the ACLU of Massachusetts from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she served as dean for communication and strategic initiatives.

“Stephanie brings extensive experience in message development, media relations, and audience engagement, and she takes a thoughtful, creative, and expansive approach to using communication tools to achieve organizational goals,” said Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts. “We are delighted to welcome her to the leadership team at this crucial moment for defending civil rights, protecting personal freedom, and maintaining the rule of law.”

At Harvard's Chan School, Simon led the school’s news, media relations, social media, event programming, and marketing teams and directed the communications response to the Trump administration’s unlawful termination of federal grants for public health research. Before joining Harvard, Stephanie was managing director of Ten Bridge Communications in Boston. She started her career as a journalist, reporting for the Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal before helping to launch the life science publication STAT, where she served as managing editor.
