Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, today released the following statement in response to the Senate’s vote on automatic voter registration:

“We are grateful to the Senate and its leadership for moving to expand access to the ballot here in Massachusetts. Automatic voter registration brings an opportunity to engage nearly 700,000 more eligible Massachusetts voters in the democratic process. Making it simpler to register means more people will have their votes counted on Election Day, and increased voter participation means a stronger democracy. We’re now counting on Governor Baker to swiftly sign this bill to make voting more accessible, secure, and fair for all Bay Staters.”
