The Massachusetts House released an Economic Development bill on Monday that included $15 million to support abortion providers, clinic security, and reproductive health workforce and educational needs. The Beyond Roe Coalition today released the following statements applauding the historic investment in reproductive health care access:

“We are extraordinarily grateful to Speaker Mariano and Chairman Michlewitz for their unwavering commitment to reproductive equity in Massachusetts. The House is meeting this moment of crisis with an historic and much-needed investment in abortion providers and clinics,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, Executive Director of Reproductive Equity Now. “Funding to ensure clinic safety, expand clinic infrastructure, and expand and diversify the provider workforce will be essential as people travel across state lines to access care in our Commonwealth. And as the threat of crisis pregnancy centers continues to escalate, investment in public education campaigns on the dangers of these facilities will be critical to ensure people have access to legitimate health care. Budgets are a reflection of our values, and Massachusetts is making it clear that it will continue to be a beacon for reproductive freedom amid an ever-changing abortion landscape.”

“We commend Speaker Mariano and Chairman Michlewitz for their leadership, and thank them for using every tool in their toolbox to ensure meaningful access to abortion in Massachusetts,” said Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts. “The House’s historic addition of $15 million into the Economic Development bill to support abortion providers and clinic security and infrastructure is a crucial investment in reproductive freedom. We are grateful that Massachusetts lawmakers are meeting this challenge, and doing all they can to ensure abortion care is available, accessible, and affordable in the Commonwealth.”

"At a time when millions of people across the country are losing access to abortion care, we are incredibly grateful for this investment from the House. This investment in reproductive health care is a bold statement that Massachusetts stands for health care, and will directly support our ability to provide patients with the care they deserve. We thank Speaker Mariano and Chairman Michlewitz for their leadership,” said Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

Last month, the House passed an historic package to protect and expand abortion access in Massachusetts that included several of the Beyond Roe Coalition’s policy recommendations.
