Voters across the U.S. decisively rejected the Trump administration’s cruel and unlawful policies in the Nov. 3 midterm elections. In Massachusetts, the electorate resoundingly supported strengthening access to the ballot box with Election Day Registration.

Carol Rose, executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, shared the following statement in response:

“This is what democracy looks like.

“The groundwork we did together over the past two years made these election results possible. Day after day, millions of us made the choice to show up for our neighbors, our values, and our Constitution. It took courage. It took grit. It mattered.

“At the ACLU of Massachusetts, we will continue to fight Trump’s agenda in court. We are deep in the trenches with important litigation to defend voting rights, due process, equal protection, LGBTQIA+ equality, and more.

“But we can do more than build firewalls. This is a moment for all of us to come together and build a more inclusive, more expansive democracy.

“We need a civil rights agenda for the Age of AI. And a strategy for bringing all voices to the table to define — and then deliver — the future of freedom.

“If we work together, Massachusetts can lead the way for the rest of the nation. This is a historic opportunity. We can’t wait to get started.”
