Our nation's approach to criminal justice desperately needs reform. The federal prison population has increased by almost 800% since 1980, and the United States imprisons more people than North Korea, China or any other country in the world. It's a national disgrace.

Jeffery Robinson, the new director of the national ACLU's Center for Justice, discussed these issues in a November 2015 Amicus luncheon at Morgan Lewis. Listen to his remarks in this 51-minute audio recording.

Robinson joined the ACLU in fall 2015 after a 34-year career as a prominent defense attorney. He now leads the ACLU's fights to reform police practices, indigent defense systems, disproportionate sentencing and government abuses of authority in the name of fighting crime. His mandate also includes working to overturn the drug laws which have failed to achieve public safety and health while putting an unprecedented number of people behind bars.
