As the Racial Justice Community Advocate, Tanekwah develops relationships and creates advocacy opportunities for organizations, leaders, and activists in communities of color. Through her current and past work, Tanekwah uplifts and empowers the voices of marginalized communities, especially the LGBTQ community, women, and people of color. Prior to joining the ACLU of Massachusetts in June 2019, she planned outreach events to support the health of the LGBTQ community, coordinated gender-inclusive competency trainings for providers, and advocated for local resources across the state at Fenway Health and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth.

She has presented workshops and panels for local and national organizations and colleges, such as the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition, Salem State University, Boston University, and National LGBTQ Task Force. The Boston Alliance for Community Health awarded her dedication to the community and public health through the Healthy Community Leadership Award. Tanekwah’s activism has been featured on local television as well as online in ViceScout Cambridge, and Feminist Formations.
